Family-friendly music festival set for August 24 features live music, kids’ activities and silent auction. All proceeds benefit pediatric cancer research and awareness.
MILWAUKEE (JULY 18, 2013) — The Paxton Andrews Foundation, Inc. announced today the lineup for its 2nd Annual PaxFest includes the critically-acclaimed Satellite. The one-day music festival is set for Saturday, August 24 at the Rotary Performance Pavilion at Hart Park.
Satellite, hailing from Nashville, Tenn., will headline the music festival. The alternative rock quartet blends boldly vulnerable lyrics with anthemic but finely textured pop. The Huffington Post described Satellite’s latest album, Calling Birds, as “an indie-inspired slice of Americana,” while MTV likened the band’s sound to that of Wisconsin’s own Bon Iver.
“Satellite is an emerging star in the alternative rock scene,” said Kate Barrie, Executive Director of The Paxton Andrews Foundation, Inc. “We sought out up-and-coming national acts to bring to PaxFest 2013 for a rockin’ music festival to fight pediatric cancer. We couldn’t be more excited to bring Satellite back to Milwaukee.”
PaxFest will benefit both The Paxton Andrews Foundation, Inc. and The Pablove Foundation, two non-profit organizations with Milwaukee ties whose missions are to fight pediatric cancer.
In addition to Satellite, Milwaukee favorites 5 Card Studs, SlimRox, Ivy Spokes and Rectifier are all scheduled to perform.
The Empower HR/River Run Computers Kid Zone will feature bounce houses, a giant slide, carnival games, balloon sculptures, face painting, funnel cakes, sno cones and more.
Maxie’s Southern Comfort and Blue’s Egg will provide a food menu with a wide variety of options to satisfy many tastes.
Tickets for PaxFest are on sale now at www.paxlovealways.com through Friday, August 23. Tickets are $10.00; Children 10 and under are FREE. Tickets will also be available at the festival grounds on Saturday, August 24.
The Paxton Andrews Foundation, Inc. is still accepting sponsor, vendor and volunteer applications for PaxFest. For more information, visit www.paxlovealways.com.
The Paxton Andrews Foundation, Inc. is a Milwaukee-based all volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to fighting pediatric cancer in honor of Paxton Bowe Andrews, our Peaceful Warrior. On May 8, 2012 Paxton Andrews was taken to his pediatrician for what appeared to be a common cold and possible eye infection. Hours later, doctors confirmed that three-month-old Paxton did not have a cold nor an eye infection, but a rare form of cancer. After a valiant fight, our Peaceful Warrior ended his battle with cancer on July 2, 2012. We continue the fight against childhood cancer to honor our Peaceful Angel and make him proud. More information can be found at paxlovemusic.org.
PaxFest was created to honor the memory of Paxton Andrews by fighting pediatric cancer with music. In its inaugural year, the one-day music festival raised more than $15,000 for The Pablove Foundation.
The Pablove Foundation (www.pablove.org) was founded in May 2008 by Milwaukee native Jeff Castelaz and his wife Jo Ann Thrailkill after their four-year-old son Pablo Castelaz was diagnosed with bilateral Wilms Tumor, a rare form of childhood cancer. After a valiant fight against the disease, Pablo passed away six days past his sixth birthday on June 27, 2009. Imbued with his spirit and inspired by his strength, The Pablove Foundation is dedicated to the daily, global fight against childhood cancer and the suffering that comes in its wake. The Pablove Foundation’s scientific advisory committee is comprised of the brightest minds in the pediatric cancer field, including doctors and researchers from Harvard, Duke, University of Michigan, USC, City of Hope and others.
