Cross town rivals, Brookfield Central Lancers and Brookfield East Spartans, have made an unprecedented move. Gold Out! poster in Ms. Bowe’s classroom window at BCHS. The long-standing arch enemies will face-off on the football field Friday night, but they remain united in the fight against childhood cancer. The two high schools have joined forces to create awareness for childhood cancer in honor of Paxton Bowe Andrews. Paxton is the son of well-loved Brookfield Central teacher Danna Bowe, who ended his brave battle against cancer last summer. In conjunction with September being Childhood Cancer Awareness month, students and staff at BCHS and BEHS will wear gold to school and to the big game tomorrow. Special t-shirts, with the motto “Two Schools — One Cause”, were designed to promote the event. The mission of this movement is to create awareness about childhood cancer through generating a “gold-out”: where both student sections will donned in predominantly in gold. The gold-out has been a collaborative effort organized by the Brookfield Central Key Club, Student Council, and K’Nex Club along with the Brookfield East Student Council. Paxton’s mother, Danna, will be an honorary captain at Friday night’s game, and prior to kick-off there will be a ceremonial, gold ballon launch to pay tribute to her beloved son.
“It is one small thing we can do to honor Paxton and the other children in our community who have ended, endured, or are currently fighting this devastating battle,” said Nita Hodgson, BCHS staff member who had the idea to have a gold-out at the East-Central rivalry game.
Friday’s game is at Brookfield Central High School, and kickoff is 7:00pm. Get there early to be part of a beautiful balloon launch tribute. “Two Schools – One Cause”, and a stadium filled with the newest members of Paxton’s Army of Love. Go get ’em.
